Standard Work and Work Instruction Development for Shop Floor Teams

Inconsistent methods between shifts and operators are a hidden cause of variation and quality problems in many African plants. Standard work captures the current best way to do a task so that everyone follows it and improvements can build on a stable base. This course teaches teams to time, document, and roll out clear work instructions that raise consistency, safety, and quality on the shop floor.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the role of standard work as the foundation for improvement.
  • Time a task and calculate takt time and cycle time.
  • Balance work across operators to meet customer demand.
  • Write clear, visual work instructions that operators will use.
  • Roll out standard work through training and confirmation.
  • Update standards as improvements are made and verified.
