Perimeter Intrusion Detection and Alarm Systems Management

Electric fencing, beams, fibre and buried sensors promise early warning, but poorly configured perimeters flood control rooms with false alarms until real intrusions are ignored. This programme teaches security managers how to design, commission and manage layered perimeter detection so that alarms are trusted and responded to. Practical work covers zoning, nuisance alarm reduction and response integration for South African farms, plants and estates.

What you will be able to do

  • Compare perimeter detection technologies including electric fencing, beams, fibre and buried sensors.
  • Design a layered detection scheme that matches terrain, vegetation and threat direction.
  • Configure detection zones and alarm verification to reduce nuisance and false activations.
  • Integrate perimeter alarms with cameras, lighting and control room response procedures.
  • Plan maintenance, testing and fault logging to keep detection reliable over time.
  • Evaluate perimeter performance using activation data and response time analysis.
