Maritime Piracy and Vessel Security Operations

Piracy, armed robbery at sea and stowaway incidents continue to threaten vessels off the coasts of East and West Africa, raising insurance costs and endangering crews. This course prepares vessel and shore based security personnel to assess maritime threats, harden ships and respond to boarding attempts. Delegates learn ship security planning, the use of citadels and hardening measures, and coordination with naval and coastguard forces in the region.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess piracy and armed robbery threats along African shipping routes.
  • Develop and apply a ship security plan for a given vessel and voyage.
  • Harden a vessel and prepare a citadel and deterrent measures.
  • Manage crew drills and responses to a boarding or attack attempt.
  • Coordinate distress and response with naval and coastguard forces.
  • Handle stowaways, incidents and post attack reporting.
