Lean Manufacturing Fundamentals for Shop Floor Supervisors

Shop floor supervisors in South African factories are often expected to run lean improvement activities without ever having been taught the underlying principles, leaving initiatives to stall after the first workshop. This five day programme builds a practical foundation in lean manufacturing, covering waste identification, flow, pull systems, and visual management, equipping supervisors to lead daily improvement on the production line with confidence.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the core principles of lean manufacturing and their origin in production systems.
  • Identify the seven common wastes on a live production line.
  • Apply flow and pull concepts to reduce work in progress and lead time.
  • Design visual management boards that make daily performance visible to the team.
  • Lead a daily team huddle that surfaces problems and assigns improvement actions.
  • Coach operators to identify waste and suggest improvements in their own work area.
