Kidnap for Ransom and Extortion Risk Management

Extortion demands against construction sites, kidnapping of business owners and their children, and ransom demands linked to organised crime have all been reported across South Africa and neighbouring countries. This course prepares managers and security teams to reduce exposure, respond to a live incident, negotiate through appointed channels and support a family or employer through recovery, without paying ransoms directly.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the warning signs that precede a kidnap for ransom or extortion attempt against a business or family.
  • Reduce exposure to abduction through travel discipline, routine variation and household security measures.
  • Activate a crisis response plan within the first hour of a kidnap or extortion notification.
  • Explain the role of appointed negotiators, insurers and law enforcement during a live incident.
  • Support employees and family members through the emotional and practical demands of a prolonged incident.
  • Debrief a resolved incident to strengthen prevention measures and update the response plan.
