Flood and Severe Weather Emergency Response Planning

Flash floods, storms and cyclones increasingly disrupt African cities, farms and industrial sites, often with little warning and heavy damage to people and assets. This course prepares emergency and facilities teams to plan for and respond to flooding and severe weather. Participants learn to read warnings, protect sites and people, and run an orderly response and recovery when water rises or storms hit their operations.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify flood and severe weather risks facing a site or operation.
  • Interpret weather warnings and set trigger points for action.
  • Prepare sites and assets to reduce flood and storm damage.
  • Plan safe evacuation and shelter during flooding and severe weather.
  • Coordinate response with staff, tenants and emergency services.
  • Manage recovery, clean up and lessons learned after an event.
