First Aid and Medical Emergency Response in the Workplace

When a colleague collapses, chokes or is injured on a plant floor, the first few minutes before an ambulance arrives decide the outcome. This practical course prepares appointed workplace responders to assess a scene, sustain life and manage common injuries until professional help takes over. Content reflects South African workplace duties, remote site realities and the long response times faced in many rural areas.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess an emergency scene for danger and establish a safe approach to a casualty.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator.
  • Manage choking, bleeding, burns, fractures and shock using available resources.
  • Respond to medical events such as seizures, diabetic emergencies and heat illness.
  • Organise casualty handover and clear reporting to emergency services on arrival.
  • Maintain first aid kits, records and readiness across a workplace or remote site.
