Event and Crowd Safety Management

Stadium matches, festivals and public gatherings carry legal safety duties long before the gates open. Crowd dynamics, venue capacity, accreditation and the joint planning demanded by the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2 of 2010 are worked through so that an event safety plan can survive scrutiny by the authorities.

What you will be able to do

  • Apply the event safety duties set out in the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2 of 2010.
  • Categorise an event by risk and determine the planning and resources it requires.
  • Calculate safe venue capacity, entry rates and exit provision for a crowd.
  • Read crowd behaviour and identify crush, surge and disorder risks in advance.
  • Coordinate a joint planning process with police, medical, fire and municipal authorities.
  • Build an event safety plan and staff a venue operations centre on the day.
