Emergency Response Team Leadership and Fire Marshal Skills

When an alarm sounds, floor wardens and fire marshals are the people who decide whether an evacuation goes smoothly or descends into panic. This course prepares nominated emergency response team members to lead evacuations, account for staff and support emergency services on arrival. Participants practise clear command, roll call procedures and the calm decision making needed during fires, gas leaks and other building emergencies in African workplaces.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the role and authority of a fire marshal and emergency response team member.
  • Lead a floor or zone evacuation calmly and account for all occupants.
  • Operate assembly points and conduct an accurate roll call.
  • Assist people with disabilities and visitors during an evacuation.
  • Hand over control to emergency services clearly on their arrival.
