Emergency Department and Trauma Unit Management

Prepare emergency department and trauma unit managers to run high pressure units where triage accuracy, patient throughput and resource allocation determine outcomes. Drawing on South African trauma case volumes, ambulance handover realities and mass casualty scenarios, participants build practical systems for triage governance, surge planning, multidisciplinary coordination and post incident review within emergency care settings.

What you will be able to do

  • Apply triage governance principles to maintain consistent patient prioritisation.
  • Design surge capacity plans for periods of high patient volume.
  • Coordinate ambulance handover processes with emergency medical services providers.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams operating under time critical conditions.
  • Conduct structured debriefs and reviews following major incidents.
  • Monitor emergency department throughput and waiting time indicators.
