Clinic and Hospital Operations Management

A district hospital runs out of clean linen on a Friday afternoon while three wards wait on porters. Operations problems in South African health facilities are rarely clinical. Patient flow, staffing rosters, outsourced services and the daily management meeting that keeps a facility running.

What you will be able to do

  • Map patient flow from arrival to discharge and identify the points where queues build.
  • Build staffing rosters that match demand patterns without breaching working time rules.
  • Run a daily operations meeting that produces decisions rather than status reports.
  • Manage outsourced cleaning, security, laundry and catering contracts against agreed service levels.
  • Interpret facility performance data including waiting times, bed occupancy and theatre utilisation.
  • Prepare a facility for external inspection and follow the findings through to closure.
