Election Security and Public Order Management

Elections across Africa place heavy demands on security planners who must protect polling stations, ballot materials and officials while allowing citizens to vote freely and peacefully. This course prepares security coordinators to plan election security, manage crowds and gatherings, and respond to disorder in a proportionate and lawful way. It emphasises coordination between electoral bodies, police and observers, and the protection of the integrity of the electoral process.

What you will be able to do

  • Plan security for polling stations, counting centres and results transmission.
  • Protect ballot materials, officials and observers throughout the electoral cycle.
  • Manage crowds, queues and gatherings at voting and results venues.
  • Respond to public disorder proportionately and within the law.
  • Coordinate between electoral commissions, police and independent observers.
  • Develop contingency plans for disputed results and tension hotspots.
