Drone Threats and Counter Drone Security for Facilities

Cheap commercial drones now conduct hostile surveillance over depots, mines and estates and have been used to smuggle contraband over prison and industrial fences in South Africa. This course helps security managers understand the drone threat and build a proportionate, lawful response. It covers detection options, response protocols and the legal limits on what a private site may actually do about an intruding drone.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how commercial drones are used for surveillance, smuggling and disruption.
  • Assess the vulnerability of a facility to overhead observation and airborne delivery.
  • Evaluate drone detection options and their practical limitations for a site.
  • Develop a response protocol for a drone sighting that protects staff and evidence.
  • Apply South African aviation and privacy law to counter drone decisions.
  • Integrate drone incidents into control room procedures and incident reporting.
