Data Driven Decision Making for Operations Managers

Operations managers in South African businesses are often flooded with production, quality, and maintenance data but lack the analytical skills to turn it into clear decisions. This course teaches practical data analysis for operations, including building meaningful dashboards, spotting trends versus noise, and using simple statistical reasoning to prioritise problems, so managers can act on evidence rather than gut feel or the loudest voice in the room.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish between meaningful trends and normal random variation in operational data.
  • Build a simple dashboard that highlights the metrics that matter most to a business.
  • Apply basic statistical reasoning to prioritise problems by frequency and impact.
  • Interpret production, quality, and maintenance data together to find root causes.
  • Present operational data to senior management in a clear, decision focused format.
  • Establish a routine review cadence that keeps data driven decisions on track.
