Crisis Communication and Media Handling for Security Incidents

A robbery, hostage situation, fatal accident or data breach becomes far worse when the organisation communicates badly, and in the age of social media a poor first statement spreads across Africa within minutes. This course prepares security leaders and spokespeople to communicate calmly and credibly during a security or safety incident. Delegates practise holding statements, media interviews, family liaison and coordination with authorities under realistic time pressure.

What you will be able to do

  • Build a crisis communication plan that activates quickly during a security incident.
  • Draft holding statements and initial messages within the first critical minutes.
  • Handle media interviews and difficult questions without worsening the situation.
  • Coordinate messaging with police, regulators and internal leadership.
  • Manage social media, rumours and misinformation during a live incident.
  • Support affected staff, families and victims through sensitive communication.
