Crime Scene Preservation and Evidence Handling for Security Officers

Security officers are usually first at the scene of a theft, assault or robbery, and what they do in those first minutes often decides whether a case ever reaches a successful outcome. This course teaches guarding and response staff to secure a scene, protect evidence and record events so that police and prosecutors can act. Participants learn practical routines that avoid contaminating evidence while keeping people safe on African sites.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain why the first responder shapes the outcome of a case.
  • Secure and cordon a crime scene without contaminating evidence.
  • Identify, protect and hand over physical and digital evidence correctly.
  • Record observations, times and actions in a clear defensible statement.
  • Preserve camera footage and access logs relevant to an incident.
  • Hand a scene over to police with a complete and orderly briefing.
