Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design for Facility Planners

Many African facilities spend heavily on guards and cameras while leaving the built environment itself an easy target for criminals. This course shows security and facilities teams how to design out crime using layout, lighting, natural surveillance and territorial reinforcement. Delegates learn to assess existing sites and shape new developments so that space itself deters intruders and reduces reliance on manpower.

  • Apply the core principles of natural surveillance, access control and territorial reinforcement to a real site.
  • Assess lighting, landscaping and sightlines to identify concealment and ambush points around buildings.
  • Recommend layout and boundary changes that reduce opportunity for theft, trespass and vehicle attack.
  • Integrate environmental design with guarding, electronic systems and estate rules for layered protection.
  • Evaluate proposed building plans and advise architects and developers before construction begins.
  • Prioritise low cost design interventions that deliver measurable reductions in incidents.
