Corporate Investigations and Fraud Examination

Internal fraud, procurement kickbacks and expense abuse cost South African organisations billions every year, yet many investigations collapse in disciplinary hearings or the CCMA because evidence was gathered incorrectly. This course builds practical investigative skill, covering complaint intake, evidence handling, interviewing techniques and report writing that will withstand internal and external scrutiny, with reference to POPIA constraints on covert monitoring.

What you will be able to do

  • Plan an internal investigation from complaint intake through to case closure without tipping off the suspect.
  • Gather and preserve documentary, digital and physical evidence in a manner that supports a disciplinary hearing or criminal referral.
  • Conduct investigative interviews with complainants, witnesses and suspects using a structured, non-coercive questioning method.
  • Apply POPIA principles when accessing emails, financial records and CCTV footage during a workplace investigation.
  • Recognise common fraud schemes in procurement, payroll and expense claims within a South African operating environment.
  • Compile an investigation report and evidence file that stands up to CCMA and disciplinary hearing scrutiny.
