Community Unrest and Labour Protest Risk Management

Service delivery protests, mining sector strikes and community blockades can shut down a site or delivery route with little warning across South Africa's operating regions. This course helps operations, security and risk teams read early warning signs, decide when to shelter in place or evacuate, protect people and assets during a protest, and rebuild community relationships once the immediate risk has passed.

What you will be able to do

  • Monitor community and labour sentiment to identify early indicators of possible unrest.
  • Decide whether to shelter employees in place, restrict movement or evacuate a site during a protest.
  • Protect vehicles, stock and infrastructure from targeted damage during blockades or strike action.
  • Brief staff and contractors on safe travel routes when protests disrupt normal access.
  • Coordinate with SAPS, local authorities and community leaders to de-escalate tension around a site.
  • Rebuild trust with an affected community once immediate safety risks have subsided.
