Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Incident Response

Hospitals, laboratories, mines, ports and industrial sites across Africa handle materials that could cause a chemical, biological or radiological emergency, whether by accident or deliberate act. This course prepares emergency planners and response leaders to recognise these hazards, protect people and coordinate a safe response. Delegates learn detection basics, cordoning, decontamination principles and how to work with specialist national agencies during a serious incident.

What you will be able to do

  • Recognise the indicators of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incident.
  • Establish safe cordons, zones and evacuation routes around a contaminated area.
  • Select appropriate protective equipment and apply decontamination principles.
  • Coordinate response with hospitals, fire services and specialist national agencies.
  • Protect responders and the public while preserving evidence for investigation.
  • Develop a site response plan for credible contamination scenarios.
