Bomb Threat and Suspicious Package Management

A telephoned bomb threat or an unattended bag left at a shopping centre entrance demands a calm, structured response within minutes, not a guess. This course trains security and facilities staff to assess the credibility of a threat, search a building systematically, handle suspicious items without contaminating evidence and decide when evacuation, partial evacuation or shelter in place is the safer option.

What you will be able to do

  • Take a telephoned bomb threat call using a structured checklist that captures useful detail.
  • Assess the credibility of a threat against known hoax patterns and current risk indicators.
  • Search a building or area systematically without disturbing a suspicious item.
  • Apply safe handling procedures when a suspicious package or unattended item is identified.
  • Decide between full evacuation, partial evacuation and shelter in place based on the threat assessment.
  • Liaise with SAPS bomb disposal units and coordinate the safe return of occupants to the building.
