Armed Robbery Prevention and Response Planning

Armed robbery at retail stores, cash offices and small business premises remains one of the most common violent crimes reported to South African police. This course teaches managers and frontline staff how to reduce the attractiveness of a premises as a target, respond safely during an armed incident, preserve evidence for investigators and support staff through the aftermath of a traumatic robbery.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess a premises for the layout, cash handling and access features that attract armed robbers.
  • Reduce target attractiveness through cash management, signage and visible deterrent measures.
  • Direct staff to comply safely with an armed offender's instructions without escalating the threat.
  • Preserve the scene and evidence for SAPS after an armed robbery has occurred.
  • Activate a post robbery response plan covering medical care, notification and business continuity.
  • Support traumatised staff through debriefing and referral to trauma counselling services.
