X-Ray Fluorescence and Diffraction Analysis for Minerals and Cement

Focused on the X-ray techniques that mining, metallurgical and cement laboratories across Southern Africa rely on for elemental and mineralogical analysis. Delegates work through sample preparation, fused bead and pressed pellet methods, calibration and phase identification so that results on ores, concentrates, slags and clinker are consistent and defensible.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe how XRF measures elemental composition and how XRD identifies mineral phases.
  • Prepare fused beads and pressed pellets suited to different mineral matrices.
  • Build and verify calibration curves using certified reference materials.
  • Identify crystalline phases from diffraction patterns for ores and industrial products.
  • Apply corrections for particle size, mineralogy and matrix effects.
  • Manage instrument drift, quality control samples and routine calibration checks.
