Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

Covers the selection, configuration and daily use of laboratory information management systems for testing and calibration facilities. Addresses sample tracking, workflow automation, data integrity, user access control and reporting, with realistic attention to the connectivity and infrastructure constraints found in many African laboratories, including intermittent power and limited network bandwidth in remote sites.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the core modules and data flows of a typical LIMS.
  • Map laboratory sample workflows onto LIMS functionality.
  • Configure user roles, access levels and electronic signatures within a LIMS.
  • Apply data integrity principles to electronic laboratory records.
  • Generate management and client reports directly from LIMS data.
  • Plan LIMS implementation or upgrade steps suited to local infrastructure conditions.
