Wind Turbine Operations and Maintenance

As wind farms expand across South Africa, Kenya and other African markets, operators need technicians who can keep turbines producing safely in remote and windy conditions. This programme covers the mechanical, electrical and control systems of modern turbines and the planned and corrective work that keeps them available. Participants learn safe working at height, blade and gearbox care, and how to interpret turbine data to schedule interventions before failures occur.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the main systems of a modern wind turbine and how they interact.
  • Apply safe working at height and rescue practices specific to turbine towers and nacelles.
  • Perform scheduled inspection of blades, gearboxes, generators and yaw systems.
  • Diagnose common turbine faults using control system alarms and condition data.
  • Plan seasonal maintenance campaigns around wind availability and access constraints.
  • Track turbine availability and losses to prioritise reliability improvements.
