Water Analysis and Quality Control

Municipal, mining and industrial water laboratories across South Africa test for physical, chemical and inorganic parameters that determine whether water is safe to use, discharge or treat further. This course covers core water analysis techniques, common interferences, and the quality control practices, including blanks, spikes and control charts, that keep water testing data defensible for regulators and plant operators alike.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the physical, chemical and inorganic parameters routinely tested in water analysis.
  • Apply correct sampling, preservation and holding time practices for water samples.
  • Perform titrimetric, colorimetric and instrumental methods used in water testing.
  • Recognise common interferences and sources of error in water analysis results.
  • Implement quality control measures including blanks, spikes, duplicates and control charts.
  • Interpret water quality results against relevant discharge or drinking water limits.
