Vibration Analysis and Condition Monitoring

Unplanned bearing and coupling failures cost South African mines and factories production hours that are hard to recover. This hands on programme teaches technicians and engineers to capture vibration readings correctly, interpret spectra and waveforms, and separate genuine defects from measurement error, so that early warnings on rotating machinery translate into scheduled repairs instead of surprise breakdowns.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how vibration signatures relate to common rotating machinery defects.
  • Set up and operate portable vibration measurement equipment on typical plant machines.
  • Read frequency spectra and time waveforms to identify imbalance, misalignment and bearing wear.
  • Establish baseline readings and alarm limits for critical rotating equipment.
  • Distinguish measurement artefacts and sensor faults from real mechanical problems.
  • Report vibration findings in a form that supports maintenance planning decisions.
