Underground Charge Up and Explosives Tie In Operations Safety

Focuses on the practical safety of charging up and tying in explosives for underground blasting, a task performed by charge up crews on almost every shift in African underground mines. Participants learn safe charging sequences, primer preparation, tie in of initiation systems and misfire prevention. The programme concentrates on the crew level disciplines that prevent premature and incomplete detonation.

What you will be able to do

  • Prepare primers and charge blast holes according to safe sequence.
  • Tie in electronic, shock tube and detonating cord initiation systems.
  • Verify circuit integrity and connections before initiation.
  • Prevent misfires through correct charging and tie in practice.
  • Manage explosives at the face and control unused product.
  • Apply making safe and re entry checks after blasting.
