Treasury Management and Foreign Exchange Risk

A rand move of a few cents can erase the margin on an imported order. Treasury teams learn to identify transaction, translation and economic exposure, price forward cover and options, set hedging policy a board can approve, and manage liquidity, counterparty limits and exchange control reporting.

What you will be able to do

  • Map the currency, interest rate and liquidity exposures carried by the business.
  • Explain how spot, forward and swap pricing follows from interest rate differentials.
  • Select hedging instruments that match the exposure profile and the risk appetite.
  • Draft a treasury policy covering mandates, limits and approval authority.
  • Manage bank counterparty risk, facility utilisation and cash concentration structures.
  • Meet exchange control and reporting requirements for cross border payments.
