Corporate Income Tax Fundamentals

Accounting profit and taxable income are rarely the same number, and the difference has to be explained line by line. Delegates follow the tax computation of a South African company under the Income Tax Act, from gross income and general deductions through capital allowances, assessed losses and provisional tax obligations.

What you will be able to do

  • Trace the path from accounting profit to taxable income in a corporate computation.
  • Apply the gross income definition and the general deduction principles to real transactions.
  • Distinguish capital from revenue in receipts and expenditure and explain the consequence.
  • Claim wear and tear, building and other capital allowances on qualifying assets.
  • Account for capital gains on disposals and for the carry forward of assessed losses.
  • Plan provisional tax estimates and reconcile them to the final assessment.
