Trade Sanctions and Export Control Compliance

African exporters, importers and financial institutions are increasingly exposed to international sanctions and export control regimes that carry severe penalties. This course explains how sanctions lists, dual use controls and secondary sanctions work in practice. Delegates learn to screen counterparties, classify goods, manage restricted party risk and build a compliance programme that keeps cross border trade moving safely.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how major sanctions and export control regimes operate.
  • Screen customers, suppliers and vessels against restricted lists.
  • Classify dual use goods and determine licensing needs.
  • Assess secondary sanctions and correspondent banking risk.
  • Build sanctions clauses into contracts and trade finance.
  • Design a trade compliance programme and audit trail.
