Thermographic Inspection and Non Destructive Testing for Maintenance
Loose electrical connections and hidden structural defects rarely announce themselves before they cause a fire or a failure, which is why thermal imaging and basic non destructive testing have become standard tools on serious maintenance teams. This programme introduces thermographic surveying, ultrasonic thickness testing and dye penetrant inspection, focused on practical application within routine plant maintenance rounds.
What you will be able to do
Explain how infrared thermography detects electrical, mechanical and thermal anomalies.
Conduct thermal imaging surveys on electrical panels, motors and mechanical equipment.
Interpret thermal images to distinguish genuine defects from environmental influences.
Apply ultrasonic thickness testing to assess wall loss on pipework and tanks.
Carry out dye penetrant inspection to detect surface cracking on welds and components.
Prioritise findings from inspection surveys into a ranked maintenance action list.
