Thermal Analysis Techniques: DSC, TGA and DMA

This course introduces the thermal characterisation of polymers, pharmaceuticals, foods and advanced materials using differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis. Delegates learn to design experiments, interpret thermograms and link thermal behaviour to product quality, formulation and processing decisions.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the operating principles of DSC, TGA and DMA instruments.
  • Design thermal experiments suited to specific materials and questions.
  • Interpret glass transition, melting, crystallisation and decomposition events.
  • Calibrate temperature and heat flow for reliable comparative results.
  • Correlate thermal properties with formulation and processing behaviour.
  • Report thermal data clearly for research and quality decisions.
