Technology Transfer and Scale Up from Laboratory to Plant

Moving a process from bench scale success to reliable plant operation is one of the hardest steps in industrial research and technology work, and many African operations lose value when scale up is rushed or poorly documented. This course covers the principles of technology transfer, scale up methodology, risk assessment and the collaboration between laboratory, pilot plant and production teams needed for a successful handover.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the principles of technology transfer and scale up in industrial research and technology work.
  • Assess process data at laboratory and pilot scale to identify scale up risks.
  • Apply scale up methodologies for reactors, separations and other unit operations.
  • Plan pilot plant trials that generate data suitable for full scale design.
  • Coordinate handover activities between laboratory, engineering and production teams.
  • Evaluate scale up outcomes and document lessons learned for future projects.
