Tax Dispute Resolution and SARS Audit Management

A SARS verification letter or field audit can escalate quickly when a taxpayer responds without a plan. This course covers how SARS selects cases, what auditors look for, and the correct sequence of objection, alternative dispute resolution and appeal under the Tax Administration Act, so finance teams can manage disputes calmly instead of reactively.

What you will be able to do

  • Recognise the SARS audit and verification process from selection through finalisation.
  • Prepare a defensible response file before engaging with a SARS auditor.
  • Draft objections and appeals that meet the Tax Administration Act's procedural requirements.
  • Use alternative dispute resolution to settle disputes before litigation becomes necessary.
  • Manage understatement penalties, interest and settlement negotiations with SARS.
  • Escalate unresolved disputes to the Tax Board or Tax Court appropriately.
