Stope Support, Backfill and Underground Stability Operations

Builds competence in installing stope support and managing backfill systems that maintain stability in narrow reef and massive underground mining across Southern Africa. The course covers support standards, backfill preparation and placement, barricade integrity and quality control at the working face. Emphasis is on preventing fall of ground and ensuring backfill performs as designed.

What you will be able to do

  • Interpret stope support standards for varying ground conditions.
  • Install temporary and permanent support correctly at the face.
  • Prepare, transport and place backfill safely and to specification.
  • Manage barricade construction and integrity for fill retention.
  • Apply quality control checks on support and backfill placement.
  • Recognise and report deteriorating ground and support conditions.
