Statistical Techniques for Analytical Laboratories

Sound statistical thinking underpins every defensible laboratory result. This course introduces control charting, outlier testing, regression and basic method comparison statistics used to monitor performance and support decision making, giving laboratory staff practical tools for trending data and identifying out of control conditions in day to day testing work.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain basic statistical concepts relevant to laboratory data analysis.
  • Construct and interpret control charts for routine quality monitoring.
  • Apply outlier tests to identify questionable results.
  • Use regression and correlation to compare methods or instruments.
  • Calculate mean, standard deviation and relative standard deviation for test data.
  • Interpret trending data to detect out of control conditions early.
