Spectroscopy Techniques UV Visible Atomic Absorption and FTIR

This course builds practical competence in the spectroscopic techniques most widely used in South African testing laboratories. Participants cover UV visible spectrophotometry, atomic absorption spectroscopy and FTIR, including sample preparation, instrument operation, spectral interpretation and common interference effects, equipping staff to run routine and specialised spectroscopic analyses with confidence.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the principles of UV visible, atomic absorption and FTIR spectroscopy.
  • Describe sample preparation requirements for each spectroscopic technique.
  • Operate spectrophotometers, atomic absorption and FTIR instruments correctly.
  • Interpret spectra and absorbance data to identify and quantify analytes.
  • Identify common interference effects and apply appropriate corrections.
  • Troubleshoot poor spectral results and instrument performance issues.
