Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning Plant Safety for Copper and Cobalt Operations

Provides in depth safety and operational training for solvent extraction and electrowinning plants that dominate copper and cobalt production across the Central African copperbelt. Participants learn to manage flammable organic solvents, strong acids, crud handling and the electrical hazards of the tankhouse. The programme addresses the fire, chemical and process safety controls essential to these hydrometallurgical operations.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the solvent extraction and electrowinning process and its safety critical steps.
  • Manage flammable organic and diluent fire and static discharge risks.
  • Handle sulphuric acid, electrolyte and reagents with correct controls.
  • Control crud formation, phase disengagement and settler hazards.
  • Apply electrical safety measures for the electrowinning tankhouse.
  • Respond to spills, fires and acid mist emergencies in the plant.
