Situational Leadership and Adapting Your Management Style

No single management style works for every person or task, yet many African managers default to one approach because it is how they were led. This course teaches leaders to read the readiness and competence of each team member and flex between directing, coaching, supporting and delegating. Participants leave able to match their style to the person and the situation rather than forcing everyone into the same mould.

What you will be able to do

  • Diagnose the competence and commitment level of individual team members for specific tasks.
  • Select the appropriate leadership style from directing, coaching, supporting or delegating.
  • Adjust your approach as an employee grows from novice to independent performer.
  • Recognise the risks of over supervising capable staff and under supporting new staff.
  • Practise style switching through realistic workplace conversations and scenarios.
  • Build a personal plan to apply situational leadership with your current team.
