Rigging, Lifting Tackle Inspection and Machinery Moving

Maintenance work constantly involves lifting and moving heavy components, and poor rigging is a leading cause of serious injury on African sites. This programme builds sound rigging judgement in maintenance teams. Delegates learn to select and inspect slings, shackles and lifting tackle, calculate loads and angles, and plan machinery moves so heavy equipment is handled safely and without damage.

What you will be able to do

  • Select slings, shackles and lifting tackle suited to the load and lift.
  • Inspect lifting equipment and remove defective tackle from service.
  • Estimate load weights and understand the effect of sling angles.
  • Identify lifting points and the centre of gravity of components.
  • Plan and communicate machinery moves and lifts within a maintenance context.
  • Apply safe practices when moving heavy equipment with limited access.
