Records Management and POPIA Compliance in the Office

Filing becomes a compliance function the moment personal information is involved. Administrators build a records system with defensible retention periods, controlled access, and a clear answer for the day someone requests their own information under POPIA. Paper and digital records are handled in the same registry.

What you will be able to do

  • Classify records by type, sensitivity and retention requirement.
  • Build a file plan and naming convention that works across paper and electronic storage.
  • Apply POPIA principles to the collection, storage and sharing of personal information.
  • Set access controls and an audit trail for records containing personal information.
  • Respond correctly to a request from a person for access to their own information.
  • Dispose of records securely at the end of the retention period and record that disposal.
