Reading Engineering Drawings and P&IDs for Maintenance Teams

Maintenance teams that cannot confidently read drawings waste time on site and risk dangerous mistakes during isolation and repair. This programme builds practical drawing literacy, from mechanical and electrical drawings to process and instrumentation diagrams used across African plants. Delegates learn to locate equipment, trace lines and use drawings to plan safe, accurate work.

What you will be able to do

  • Interpret common mechanical, electrical and civil engineering drawings.
  • Read process and instrumentation diagrams and their symbols.
  • Trace pipe, cable and instrument lines through a set of drawings.
  • Use drawings to locate equipment and plan isolation and repair.
  • Identify tag numbers and cross reference them to the plant and register.
  • Recognise and report drawings that no longer match the plant.
