Quality Assurance and Quality Control in Testing Laboratories

Distinguishes quality assurance from quality control and shows how both function together in a testing laboratory. Covers control charts, blanks, spikes, duplicates, reference materials and corrective action processes, drawing on examples from water, mining and industrial testing common across the region, so results stand up to client and regulatory scrutiny.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish between quality assurance activities and quality control checks.
  • Select appropriate quality control samples for a given test method.
  • Construct and interpret control charts for routine testing data.
  • Use certified reference materials to verify method performance.
  • Investigate out of control results and implement corrective actions.
  • Design a quality control schedule appropriate to laboratory workload.
