Public Sector Ethics, Fraud Prevention and Anti-Corruption
This course strengthens the ability of public officials to detect, prevent and respond to fraud and corruption risks within municipalities and government departments. Participants examine conflict of interest disclosure, whistle-blowing protections, procurement-related fraud schemes and the roles of internal audit, the Public Protector and law enforcement agencies, leaving with a practical ethics and fraud prevention plan for their own workplace.
What you will be able to do
Explain the ethical obligations placed on public officials under South African legislation.
Identify common fraud and corruption schemes in procurement and payroll processes.
Apply conflict of interest disclosure procedures correctly and consistently.
Support whistle-blowers in line with the Protected Disclosures Act.
Coordinate with internal audit, the Public Protector and law enforcement on suspected fraud.
Draft a workplace ethics and fraud prevention action plan.
