Project Procurement and Contract Management

Procurement decisions made early in a project quietly set the ceiling on what can still go wrong later. This course works through procurement planning, tender documentation, objective bid evaluation, choosing an appropriate contract form and managing suppliers once work is under way, using examples drawn from South African public and private sector projects rather than generic international theory.

What you will be able to do

  • Develop a procurement plan that matches sourcing method to the risk and value of each project package.
  • Draft tender documentation and evaluation criteria that hold up to scrutiny and challenge.
  • Compare common contract forms and select the one that suits the project's risk profile.
  • Negotiate contract terms that protect delivery without destroying the supplier relationship.
  • Monitor supplier performance and manage variations, claims and disputes as they arise.
  • Close out contracts correctly, including final accounts, retentions and supplier performance records.
