Project Governance and Assurance for Sponsors and Steering Committees

Projects fail as often in the boardroom as on site, when sponsors approve business cases they do not fully understand and steering committees rubber stamp reports they cannot interrogate. This course equips sponsors and committee members to govern projects actively, ask the right questions and provide assurance that public and shareholder money is being well spent. It reflects South African governance expectations across both public and private sectors.

What you will be able to do

  • Define the roles and duties of sponsors, steering committees and project boards.
  • Interrogate a business case and challenge optimistic assumptions before approval.
  • Set stage gates and decision points that give governance real control.
  • Read project reports critically and identify what is being left unsaid.
  • Commission and use independent assurance reviews at the right moments.
  • Hold project managers to account while enabling rather than obstructing delivery.
