Project Closeout, Handover and Benefits Realisation

Most project methodologies give closeout a single slide, yet this is where organisations lose the benefits they funded the project to achieve. This course covers formal acceptance, operational handover, resource release and, critically, tracking whether the promised benefits were actually realised months after the project team has moved on to other work.

What you will be able to do

  • Confirm formal acceptance of deliverables against agreed criteria before closure.
  • Plan a handover to operations that avoids knowledge loss when the project team disbands.
  • Release resources, close contracts and settle final accounts correctly.
  • Capture lessons learned in a form that future projects will actually consult.
  • Design a benefits realisation plan that outlives the project closeout date.
  • Report benefits achievement to sponsors and adjust plans when targets are missed.
