Occupational Health Risk Assessment and Hazard Ranking for Mines

Develops the specialist skill of occupational health risk assessment, the structured process used to identify, quantify and rank health hazards that drive medical surveillance and control programmes at African mines. Participants learn to profile exposures to dust, noise, chemicals, heat and ergonomic stressors and to prioritise interventions. The programme links health risk assessment to surveillance, controls and legal obligations.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic health hazards in mining.
  • Apply occupational health risk assessment methodology and hazard ranking.
  • Quantify exposures and compare against occupational exposure limits.
  • Prioritise controls and link assessments to medical surveillance.
  • Compile homogeneous exposure groups and risk profiles.
  • Report findings and integrate them into the mine health programme.
