Next Generation Sequencing and Genomics Laboratory Workflows

An applied introduction to next generation sequencing for laboratories moving into genomics for health, agriculture and environmental surveillance. The course walks through library preparation, sequencing run setup, quality metrics and the basics of turning raw reads into usable data. It equips staff to run reliable sequencing workflows and manage the large data files they produce.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the main sequencing chemistries and platform options.
  • Prepare sequencing libraries and assess their quality before loading.
  • Set up and monitor a sequencing run against key quality metrics.
  • Apply quality control to raw reads and flag failed runs.
  • Manage sequencing data storage, transfer and basic bioinformatics handoff.
  • Document workflows to keep genomics results traceable and reproducible.
